Banana and Canna Lily Pictures!

Over the weekend, Anna the Banana Lady invited me to her house to remove some banana's. When I turned the corner of her street it was quite evident which house was hers. She must have over 100 banana trees. Some were over 20ft tall some were barely 2ft tall. She had Misi Luki's, Praying Hands, Goldfingers, and Apple just to name a few. She wants to give me as many as I will take. My yard is going to look like hers in no time with banana's everywhere. She also has a nice variety of Canna Lilies, this was the first time I have noticed this plant, very interesting. I think it looks like a mini banana that flowers. The best of both worlds. Just Another Yard in Fort Pierce w/ Zamia furfuracea or Carboard Palms For Sale!

Since I have begun this blog I have met a variety of people. Some local some not so local, but the really exciting part are the local plant people's response when I talk about My yard in Fort Pierce. I have had several Emails from people offering me plants and open invitations to visit there yards. Well this is another 1 of those invites and I have some really sweet pictures from who we will call the "CP Lady" CP standing for Cardboard Palm because she has lots and lots of large Cardboard Palms For Sale. She said they are starting out at $25. These things are old and huge!

Juat Another Yard in Fort Pierce pt.3

These are a few of the Pandanus's that the CP Lady has in her yard along with pictures of a Bald Cypress and a Caryota mitis.

This pandanus is over 9 ft tall.

Bubba's Grandpa's House Round 2

I made it back to my friends Bubba's grandpa's house to get more pictures. This trip scored me a new Cym. orchid, 6 different bromeliads, clippings of a vanilla plant, garlic vine, hoya, and a chinese hat vine. I will post pictures of these new clippings in a future post. Tonight I am trying a few slide shows. If you click on the picture it will give you the big picture, but you have to allow pop-ups from this site. These are more pictures of his yard. Many different bromeliads in bloom, the floss silk tree and the encyclia hamburyii that is growing on it. And many others.

This one is a slide show of the Green House. So many different plants and orchids. Everywhere you look there is something else. Orchids mounted on shells, coconuts, slabs, and anything else he could get an orchid to attach itself to. Click on a picture and see how many different plants are growing in such a little area.

Bubba's Grandpa's House

Let me start with how my fried Bubba has been talking about his Grandpa's house for weeks now. Telling me how he has a green house full of orchids. Well I have been telling him for weeks now LETS GO! Yesterday it happened. We pulled up around 5:30 and I began looking at everything. It starts with a nice croton collection across the front of the house like a hedge, but no 2 are alike. Then there is island after island of different bromeliads. I have no idea what the names of each one is but I have lots of different pictures of these. I do know that in 1 shot it has a variegated pineapple and a clump of pandanus's. Ground orchids growing out of control. Palm trees galore a 3 year old Bismarck in the corner, a nice size trimmed phoniex relinada, a huge cluster of lady palms, 10 chinese fan palms, and a few different palms. Then I came to the orchid house. At 1 time he had 4, but he lost them all in the hurricanes in 04, and with his age he has only been able to get 1 back up and operating. I got lots of good ideas for my greenhouse that I want to build. From the water system to the floor to help hold in the humidity. He had hundreds of different orchids, air plants, and succulents in there. He just had a dendrobium take 2nd place at the last PSLOS show. Then on a huge silk floss tree just outside he has an orchid growing up it. He told me what it was ,but I can't remember with all the names he was throwing out. This guy is in bloom right now and is pretty amazing growinf around the spikes on the silk floss tree. I didn't do a very good job on taking pictures of everything, but i do have a few for the post. Some how I did not take 1 inside the orchid house, I thought I did ,but going through the pictures I can't find any.
