Vanda terete , Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim

Miss Joaquim was classified as one of the terete Vanda orchids, being a cross between Vanda hookeriana and Vanda teres. The growth habit of these orchids did not fit well into the Vanda genus, so they have been given their own genus Papilionanthe meaning the butterfly flower. This Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim has leaves that are folded into a cylinder, giving them a thin, pencil-like appearanceand is believed to be a primary hybrid. This was named after the missionary in whose garden in Singapore the plant was found, late in the 19th century. Terete Vandas demand strong light for growth and flowering. I planted mine next to my Vanda tree. I had them hanging there before I planted them , and 1 of the 3 that I have, attached itself to the tree. 1 is in bloom, 1 has a spike that should be blooming any day, and 1 is just growing.
