Mounted Phal. Naples nights x (Petite rose x Glad melinda)

I purchased 2 of these Phalaenopsis Naples nights x (Petite rose x Glad melinda) which also have mottled leaves, along with a Dendrobium Cathey Beck, and a Encyclia Atronecium 'Mother's Day' x Enc. cordigera 'Chocolate Violets for an orchid growing project on orchidgeeks . The best part about the project so far is I have the first spike growing. Here is my first project for the growing project. I took a coconut and with a machette I split it in half leaving 1 side still attached. Then I took orchid moss and let it soak in some worm tea water. I drilled a couple holes so I could tie the phals down in the coconut shell. Then I placed each 1 in each side being careful to pack plenty of moss in between the roots. These are the pictures of my project.

Phalaenopsis Jetgreen Yellow Girl

Here is another orchid from the Heathcote show. This is a Phalaenopsis Jetgreen Yellow Girl , and it came from Jerry at Pelican Coast Farms. It has 2 spikes in bloom, but a few blooms starting to wilt so he gave me a great deal on this little yellow flower phal.

New NOID Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium Orchids

While I was out of town my girl came home with 6 new chids'. These came from our 3 for $20 lady. Apparently my girl has a new friend because the lady threw in an extra orchid and a full spray can of leaf shine. The first white phal has 12 blooms on 1 spike 7 blooms on the other and has another spike growing with 2 blooms to open and still growing. Then the light yellow phal still has blooms to open. A pink phalaenopsis that blew over this week and broke a few flowers off. So this scared up flower is all that is left of the open flowers, but still has 4 blooms to go. Then a very light lavender /white Dendrobium. These little flower phals I am really digging. The are so petite . This is my 3rd small flower phal. And finally a green with purple lip dendrobium. The free 1 my girl gave to her mom to take care of. This is her 4th orchid.

My 1st Rescue has Paid Off!

On Feb. 9, I posted the first picture of this NOID Phalaenopsis orchid. This is the orchid that I saved from the trash on a moving job. Well this morning the last bloom finally opened. Full bloom! Here is a series of pictures that I have taken over this blooming period. The 1st picture was taken on 2/9/08, 2nd 2/27, 3rd 2/29, 4th 3/2, 5th 3/4, 6th 3/12, 7th 3/18, 8th 3/22, 9th 3/24, and the last 2 are from 3/30. Not bad for and orchid that was just being tossed in the trash almost dead.

Orchid Flower Close Ups

Tonight I finally set up a black background and took some close up pictures of a few of the blooming Phalaenopsis orchids. The first 2 pictures are the Gold Coin from an earlier post, but the rest of these are NOID yet orchids so if you can name any of these please let me know. So I must say these are some of my best pictures yet. The black background makes all the difference. If you click on the picture they have some incredible detail. It is so amazing how each orchid has its own unique features.
