Lazy Gator Pictures!

On my lunch break today I took a cruise through White City park and I saw this lazy gator posted up on a fallen oak trunk sunning. Not until I was going through the pictures did I notice the turtle on another limb. An on a lucky snap a blue heron flew through the picture. Here are my shots. My camera sucks and the zoom is not that good. 1 day I will save enough money to buy a nice Canon, and take some really nice pics.

The Alligator on the Palm Tree Pictures!

The other day I was along the shore of the St Lucie River when I came across an awesome photo opportunity. This area is has a number of Sabal Palms that grow sideways thanks to hurricanes and erosion along the shoreline. As I was taking in the scenery I came across this 4ft alligator laying on the trunk of 1 of these leaning Sabals. Incredibly these tree can have their trunks completely submersed in the water and still continue to grow. As you can see in the pictures it made for a perfect sunning area for the gator. Also perched on 1 of the other palms was a Great Egret.

Wild Florida Encyclia tampensis orchids in Spike! Update

Today on my lunch break I stopped by my property to check up on the Encyclia tampensis orchids. They should be close to blooming. These guys are almost there. Maybe another week or so and we should have some really good pictures of these flowers. But in the mean time I took a few more pictures of the orchids in spike growing on 1 of the old oak trees. I also got the best side of the resident gator today. The backside, he was under a tree sitting in the shade, but facing the other direction. His whole body was out of the water today so I was able to get a good size judgment on him and he is every bit of 6ft if not more. My cheap camera has a crappy zoom and of course he is always on the other side of the water. Then 1 last picture of a lizard sitting on the flowers of the silver saw palmetto. (patiently waiting for the seeds on this 1).

Resident Alligator

Today, I was at my property and the resident alligator made an appearance. I have a few pictures some good some not so good. When I first saw him his body was out of the water. But when I got close enough for some good close ups he submerged down so only the snout was out of the water. The entire time I was snapping shots he never took his eyes off of me. I would change spots and he would turn just enough so he could see what I was doing.

On Thursday I leave for a 4 day fishing trip down in the Everglades. I am bringing my camera and camcorder. Hopefully when I get back on Sunday I will have lots of new footage and pictures of the Everglades National Park and the wildlife inside. Oh and also come home with a lot of fish!
