The Casualties Are Adding Up!

As I walk through the yard the casualties keep adding up. Today I lost the last leaf off of my Ponderosa lemon tree, and the only 2 lemons finally shriveled up and fell off. Next the new Princess Flower bush I just planted a few weeks ago only has 2 little sections of green left. As well as the Florida Coontie cycads, they are dying as well. Tropical Storm Fay has reaped havoc on my yard, as I sit and type this we are receiveing strong gusts of wind and rain from Hurricane Hanna, and all the buzz right now around town is were is Ike going to come a shore. Ike is a monster! as the weekend approaches the forecasts will be better and we will know if we will have to prepare for the storm. Here are a few of my casualties from TS Fay.

The Clean Up after the Storm! & Maybe the 1st Casualty

Last night just before dark the sun and a double rainbow appeared. The sun is something that just has not been visible for the past few days. So today I went into the back yard to start some clean up and I still saw a foot of water. It stinks, and is now full of tadpoles. What makes me mad is all of my neighbors yards are nice and dry. Finding out I have the low yard . Great all the water drains into mine. So with all of this rain, the inevitable is coming. Mosquito's should be hatching in the next few days and with all of this standing water we are going to be inundated with them. I decided to rent a pump and 150ft hose for $50 and pump all of this water out to the drain on the street. And I think I have my first casualty from the storm. My little Persian lime tree was almost completely submerged under the water for 4 days now. It still has some green sections but mostly looks Horrible.

More Tropical Storm Fay Pictures!

These are pictures from today! Except the first picture. That shows what my property normally looks like. The rest show how high the North Fork of the St Lucie river is. The water has started to recede, but there are areas along the St Lucie River that are still underwater. Here are my pictures.
What my property normally looks like.

My neighborhood normally floods but stops at my property. Not this time. I can remember back in the early 80's when it was this high. The Hurricanes of 2004 did not come anywhere near this high.

As the St Lucie River flows across the neighborhoods only road. The tow trucks came to help pull out all the cars the were flooded. Today there were 8 flooded out cars park on the corner going back there. One of the guys that swam out from his house said he passed a few little alligators.

And 1 more of how all the neighbors are getting back to their homes.

A few blocks away at White City Park is completely underwater.

The Morning After Tropical Storm Fay!

Rain Rain Rain is all it has done for the past 30 hours, it has slowed to a lite shower I am one of the lucky ones, homes were flooded last night here in St Lucie county, but the water stopped an inch from coming into my house. Other than some blown out screens, some leaning banana trees and a foot of water covering all of my plants, we made through pretty good. Lost power for a short period yesterday, but they restored it very quickly. Thanks FPUA! Here are some of this mornings pictures.
The water line at the front door.

My Bismarcks under water. Those are 3gallon pots in the water.
The other Bismarck.

My blown out screens with a coconut floating by.

This morning I had the first bloom start to open on this orchid.

An Underwater Yard in Fort Pierce! Tropical Storm Fay update

Tropical Storm Fay has be relentless with rain. My yard in Fort Pierce is an Underwater Yard in Fort Pierce. This morning the water began to rise. And it is still raining. I only have 4 more inches before it comes into the house. Hopefully we will make it through the night without the water rising into the house. I called the city works office for Fort Pierce today trying to get sandbags for my doors, and the answer machine said the city closed at 12p.m. today. Great no sandbags available. So far I have not lost to much, I have a leaning Goldfinger Banana tree, and just planted those coconut palm trees and bananas, and if you look right in front of the Alexandra Palms in between the 2 banana trees there are only a few branches of my lime tree sticking out of the water. Anyways here are some pictures of the yard today.
