This Ruffle Palm or Aiphanes aculeata is an attractive but intensely spiny palm and it has a very attractive crown of light green, broad ruffled, spiny leaflets. This South American native has a nice, ringed trunk, and the fronds look very similar to the Caryota fishtail palms fronds. However, the spines travel down the leaflets as well making this beauty dangerous as they are long (2-3") and so sharp they penetrate leather gloves with ease.
Well being born in a paradise like I was here in South Florida I have always taken all of my tropical plants and palms around me for granted. Just recently realizing how lucky I am. I'm going to take full advantage of this tropical climate. This blog is going to show all of my trials and tribulations with growing different species of plants and trees. Feel free to check back regularly and watch my plants grow.
